Aortic Intima and Media After Angioplasty of Coarctation of the Aorta

چکیده
Balloon coarctation angioplasty (BCA) was performed in eight patients (five male and three female) who were 14-49 years old (mean, 27.3 years) with isolated discrete unoperated coarctation of the aorta (n =7) and postoperative recoarctation (n= 1). BCA was successful in seven of eight patients, resulting in a decrease in the gradient (64+19 to 16±13 mm Hg, p <0.01), an increase in the diameter at the coarctation site (0.9± 0.4 to 1.6± 0.4 mm, p <0.01). Follow-up (6 months) has demonstrated continued gradient relief (6±9 mm Hg) and diameter

BALLOON ANGIOPLASTY IN NATIVE AORTIC COARCTATION: RESULT S IN SHIRAZ AND REVIEW OF ARTICLES
Balloon angioplasty for aortic coarctation was introduced in 1979 for the fust time.1 This procedure soon became the choice treatment for restenosis of operated coarctation,2-5 but remains controversial for native (unoperated) coarctation. However, it seems to be rapidly becoming the intervention of choice for relief of unoperated coarctation as well. In this study, we evaluate the outcome ...
متن کاملBalloon angioplasty with stent implantation in experimental coarctation of the aorta.
BACKGROUND Balloon angioplasty of coarctation of the aorta is an effective method of treatment but is complicated by tearing of the aortic intima, formation of aneurysms, and restenosis. Stent placement at the time of balloon dilation could prevent restenosis and could also prevent progression of intimal tears to aneurysms. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of balloon di...
متن کاملImmediate and Short-term Follow-Up of Aortic Coarctation Balloon Angioplasty and Stenting
Background Aortic Coarcatation (CoA) is one of the congenital heart diseases with the rate of 5-8% of Coronary heart diseases(CHDs). Balloon angioplasty is now one of the effective way of treatment for CoA, native or Re-coarctation (Re-CoA). We aimed to assess the immediate, and short term response to angioplasty and stenting, and also complications. Materials and Methods Balloon angioplasty wi...
متن کاملEffect of blockade of neuropeptide Y receptor on aortic intima-media thickness and adipose tissue characteristics in normal and obese mice
Objective(s): Atherosclerosis is an important risk factor for coronary heart disease. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and its receptors, located in peripheral tissue such as white adipose tissue, have been linked to obesity and fat storage. The role of NPY in atherosclerosis has not yet been fully studied, so this study was conducted to further investigate the effect of BIIE 0246, an NPY receptor antagoni...
متن کاملLong-term outcome after balloon angioplasty of coarctation of the aorta in adolescents and adults: Is aneurysm formation an issue?
OBJECTIVES The purpose was to evaluate long-term outcome following balloon angioplasty for coarctation in adults. BACKGROUND Long-term results of balloon angioplasty for native coarctation in adults remain incomplete, especially concerning the occurrence of aneurysm formation. METHODS Long-term follow-up data were collected in consecutive patients retrospectively. Results of balloon angiopl...
